Bearded Men in Kilts Building Kayaks
This September the Gallery at Yakima Maker Space will host a special art happening. Two of our resident Makers will don kilts and build a pair of sea kayaks, from start to finish, over four short weeks. The public is welcome to drop in during open hours to watch, learn, ask questions, etc. as the build progresses.
The kayaks will be built using stitch-and-glue techniques for the hull and cedar strips for the top deck. This combination will result in two boats with unique designs and distinct beauty.
Duncan & Heath, our kilt-clad builders, will keep to an ambitious schedule in order to complete this build in one month's time. The two boats will be available for purchase at the end of the build, with a portion of the proceeds going to support Yakima Maker Space.
So come down during any of the open hours and watch this build take shape! We look forward to seeing you there!
