Folk Art Furniture Painting

Instructor: Debbie Sundlee
Learn to use acrylic paints to decorate your piece of furniture. This class requires some experience.
Each participant will bring from home a small piece of furniture they have chosen to decorate. It must be sanded and varnished, or background painted a solid color and ready to decorate. Suggestions for items include: a child's chair, a footstool, a wooden box, a hat rack or mug rack, a small cabinet, a wall shelf, etc. Pinterest has many ideas for furniture and designs, search for folk art furniture for ideas.
Students will have access to a wide choice of acrylic paints and good quality paint brushes. It will be each participant's choice of how they design and paint their furniture. Reference art books will be made available by the instructor from which you may choose ideas, or you can design your own plans ahead of time. You may personalize your create with calligraphy, folk art designs from around the world, wild flowers, art deco and art nouveau designs, NW Native Indian designs, or many other sources.
Your instructor will demonstrate how to blend and mix acrylic colors, how to "shade" and highlight, and how to maximize success with the media for pleasing results and give suggestions for embellishing.
