Instructor:  Teresa Scofield

In this class, students will learn how to make their own cold-processed soap. All soap is a combination of lye and some kind of fat, and with a little bit of science and time, combining these ingredients creates soap. When you know how to make your own, you can choose the fragrance and ingredients that go into your soap and leave out all of the chemicals found in the store-bought kind. Each student will make 16 bars of fragrant handmade soap that you can use for yourself, or give away as a gift.

You will learn the process for making soap, the properties of the different ingredients, how to add fragrance, color, and exfoliants, and where to get the supplies you need to make more soap at home. Each student will take home a booklet with all the information you learned in class and much more. Since soap needs a few days before it can be cut, you will be able to pick up yours on the Saturday following our class.

All materials to make the soap will be included in the cost of the class. Students will be able to choose from 4 different fragrances to scent their batch of soap.
