Raku Firing Workshop

Raku is famous for both bright and subtle patterns and exciting fast-paced firing.  Pieces are fired to low temperature then moved from the kiln to a secondary combustion container for rapid chemical reactions which bring out those surface decorations.

Raku uses toxic chemicals for the glaze, so raku pieces are not food safe and cannot contain water.  Do not use them for eating or drinking.  Safety issues with raku firing require an age limit.  However, you do not need previous clay experience.  Please bring two or three bisque pieces to raku fire.

Pieces must be bisque fired to at least Cone 05 temperature before raku firing.  Please contact Yakima Maker Space at info@yakimamakerspace.org if you have questions about the pieces you wish to bring.  Pots previously bisque fired at YMS are acceptable.

Raku Kiln Use and Raku Glazes are included in the cost of the class.
