CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Router Orientation

YMS has a wonderful tool called a ShopBot! It is a 4 X 8 computer controlled router table that you can make all kinds of wonderful things with. There is however a steep learning curve and the machine is expensive to operate and maintain.  Users are required to take a certification class, or work with a certified member to use this tool.

YMS is offering an orientation for members for $30

The goal of this 1 to 2 hour crash course is to give students a better understanding of the advantages as well as complexity of CNC operation and why good design and understanding of CAD is important to the efficient execution of their designs.

Successful completion of the workshop will give students a basic understanding of YMS ShopBot operation and basic overview of VCarve Pro software. Successful completion (pass/fail) of this class will grant YMS members license to operate YMS ShopBot.

Class will review existing design file types, then execute the operation of one of those files to provide a working understanding of CNC operation and production.

*Reminder: Operation of the CNC ShopBot is expensive, to help with the costs of operation and maintenance YMS will require a $30 an hour to operate the CNC ShopBot.   Members can sign up with Kelly at kelly@yakimamakerspace.org.
